Why Cockroaches Are So Hard To FindDecember 27th, 2013
If you are claustrophobic you probably wouldn’t survive long as a cockroach. Cockroaches have survived millions of years partly due to a behavior called thigmotropism. This trait causes cockroaches to seek contact with solid surfaces on all sides of their body. It is one of the reasons why you rarely see them during the day. They are tucked away in the numerous cracks and crevices provided in the kitchen.
Understanding this behavior is crucial in obtaining proper control of these insects. If humans exhibited thigmotropism, the pictures we take of our friends would probably look a lot more like the guy to the right. Say squeeze!
