Spiders

The Black Widow Spider is one of the most poisonous spiders in North America. Their venom is 15 times more potent than rattle snake venom. You usually find them in dark areas, such as around the base of your home, garage, in wood piles, rock walls, rodent holes, or in dog houses.

Ants

Argentine ants may be the most common ant in Southern California. They are small, dark colored, and about 3mm long. They invade our homes and businesses in search of food and water. They commonly “raid” areas overnight and can be found in large numbers in the sink, food cabinets, microwaves, dishwashers, trash cans, and anywhere else food and water is located.

Gophers

Pocket gophers get their name because they have pouches on their cheeks. The interesting thing is that the pouches are located on the outside of a gopher’s mouth and not inside like a hamster. Gophers range in size anywhere from 6-9 inches in length. Their fur is usually brown, matching the color of their surrounding area. They have an excellent sense of smell, but have poor eyesight.

Squirrels

Ground squirrels live in burrows underground and have multiple entrances in order to escape predators. Burrow openings are about the size of a softball. Squirrels eat many food bearing and ornamental plants, and can do a considerable amount of damage in gardens. Their bodies are about 9 to 11 inches in length and their tails add another 5 to 9 inches. Their fur is usually a grayish brown color.

Rodents

Rodents will invade your home or building in search of shelter, food, water and warmth. They contaminate our food and living areas with their urine and feces. Rats chewing through wires are known to cause over 50,000 building fires per year. They carry diseases such as Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome, Hemorrhagic Fever with Renal Syndrome, Plague, Rat-Bite Fever.

Crickets

House crickets are around 20mm long, light yellowish brown in color. They can live their entire lives indoors. They typically stay in warm, dark, locations during the day, and come out at night. Their loud chirping gives away their presence and can prevent some from a good night’s sleep. Crickets can also do damage to certain fabrics by eating large holes in it.

Roaches

The German Cockroach is light brown in color, about a half inch long, and has two dark stripes on its head. They prefer food preparation areas, kitchens, and bathrooms because they favor warm, humid areas that are close to food and water. A single female and her offspring can produce over 30,000 individuals in a year.

Bees

Bees play an important role in our environment, but can also pose a threat to our health when their hives are too close. Bees are great at seeking out hollow voids to build their nests. Nest locations can sometimes include areas of our homes, such as walls and ceiling voids. Once established they will protect their nest if a predator gets too close. Some individuals are allergic to bee stings.
